Doug Grimmett

President, Founder

With more than twenty years' experience in design for motion media, Doug has received over 200 national and international awards in advertising, design and broadcast. As the founder of Primal Screen, he has served as Creative Director on all Primal Screen projects. His deep experience emphasizes children's entertainment brands including Nickelodeon, Disney, Cartoon Network, and Boomerang. Recently he served as president of AIGA Atlanta and is a frequent lecturer and author on the future of kids media and design in general.

He avidly collects those Japanese toy robots from the sixties.

He loves to roll old school on quads.

An activist for bikers rights, he clocks many miles weekly.

Jane Grimmett

CFO, Principal

Before Primal Screen's founding, Jane was well-entrenched in the New York print design world, working as an art director for such esteemed firms as Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor and M&Co. Today, she trusts others with the design, while we trust her with the money - which is to say, contracts, human resources, client outreach and so much more.

Nature's good for Jane, so she does what's good for nature.

An amateur herpetologist, she's owned a number of snakes.

She loves slicing the waves with the wind at her back.

Rick Newcomb

Creative Director, Principal

Rick has over fifteen years of experience at Primal Screen as a motion graphics designer, art director, and creative director. He has led many award winning projects, creating opening title sequences, music videos, network campaigns, promotional graphics and commercials for such diverse clients as Cartoon Network, CNN, Nickelodeon, PBS, TCM and the Sundance Film Festival. He has a BFA from Georgia State University.

He never lost his love of Lego and continues to collect.

He spends many a weekend in tournament play.

From his well-stocked home studio he makes musical marvels.

Stephen Mank

Principal, Composer, Sound Designer, Writer

As a co-founder of Primal Screen, Stephen has composed music and created sound design for more than a thousand projects, including hundreds of award-winning pieces. In addition, he's written copy for networks, advertisers and journals. A graduate of Davidson College and founding president of ASIFA-Atlanta, he often lectures on design, animation and music/sound. Plus, he is a seasoned runner who once finished four half marathons and five full marathons in a single year.

He digs making art for people to discover in the street.

He busies himself curating a sizable collection of instruments.

He loves tales of double dealing in glorious black and white.

Fatimah Abdullah

Executive Producer
fatimah@primalscreen.com

With more than 15 years’ experience in animation and global branding, Fatimah has kept (quite) busy as a lecturer, mentor, grant-maker and president of ASIFA-South. Before joining the team at Primal Screen, this Georgia State grad spearheaded linear, VFX, and immersive advertising projects for industry leaders including Delta, IHG, and CNN. Her brand integration vision has contributed to successful campaigns for HBO, AMC, Discovery and many more. She balances all this nose-to-the-grindstone awesomeness with a love of hammocks (also awesome).

Heard any good books lately?

She’s had her fair share of fair fare.

Hammocks rock!

Ashley Davis

Producer

A graduate of Emory University's business school, Ashley began as a Disney intern. In the years that have followed, she has lent her production talents to the worlds of fine art publishing and indepent horror moviemaking. Most recently, Ashley oversaw all post-production for the neighboring studio, Magick Lantern. When not choreographing sprawling projects for us, she is herself a dancer as well as a hiker and runner.

A keen terpsichorean, she practices modern and classical dance.

She enjoys hitting the trail with anyone who can keep up.

Some days she can't seem to get out of (the garden) bed.

Laura Green Berry

Producer

With a degree in Communications and Media studies, Laura is well-versed in the branding universe. She brings that knowledge to bear on the projects she shepherds for our high level clients. As if her projects don't give her reason enough to run all over the place, Laura is an avid marathoner. What's more, her years of work with top-tier restaurateurs make her our resident connoisseur.

She wears her sunglasses at night. No really.

She's run in several 26-milers including the Paris Marathon.

She has plenty of love for the City of Love.

Doug Tobin

Director of Interactive Projects

With 15 years' experience project managing multi-disciplinary design teams, Doug's duties have included design for online, environments, product innovation, research, packaging and visual communications. A graduate of Earlham College, he led teams at Philips Electronics and Deloitte prior to his work at Primal Screen.

He's the sworn enemy of the Sith scourge.

He produces pottery from his home kiln and offers it for sale.

He loves a good multiverse — hates portraying it in 2-D.

Rob Shepps

Creative Director

For the last 15 years Rob has worked and played in the field of Broadcast Design. Formerly as Art Director and Production Designer on films and commercials in Los Angeles; and for the last several years as a Live Action Director and Creative Director at Primal Screen. He has won numerous awards for work with such clients as Nickelodeon, PBS Kids, Sprout, CNN and Spike to name a few.

At work he shoots video, but everywhere else, it's stills.

He's made VR experiences for Oculus and other platforms.

His screen prints on wood have appeared in gallery shows.

Donald Emerson

Creative Director

Since 2000 Donald has built design and motion animation for a wide variety of clients, with a concentration in kids media. He received his B.F.A. in design from Georgia State University and has returned there to lecture. He often helms large, sweeping projects, and outside of his work at Primal Screen, Donald is an accomplished music video director. Plus, he is our best in-house resource for the "comics" aesthetic.

He's our in-house expert on all things super.

He's cheered from the audience at plenty of Radiohead shows.

He loves eating ice cream and sometimes even churns a batch.

Shane McGee

Creative Director

Shane has a BA in film and television from the The University of North Carolina and an MFA in computer animation from The Savannah College of Art and Design. He was formerly an adjunct professor at the Art Institute of Atlanta, and he has been a director with Primal Screen since 1999. He has won many awards for clients including Boomerang, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, HGTV, Nickelodeon, PBS, and TCM.

He is bewitched by a good fantasy film.

Loves soup. Tomato's the best.

He digs archaeology and ancient civilizations.

Jeremy Seymour

Creative Director

An illustrator by training, Jeremy has been an animation design director for more than a decade. Having graduated Columbus College of Art and Design, Jeremy has gone on to lead most of the 2-D animated projects at Primal Screen, including all the recent identity packages for PBS Kids, HBO's El Perro y el Gato, and large-scale curriculum projects for Scholastic and Sesame Workshop. In addition, he lends his illustration talent to a variety of non-animated pieces.

Heelies are how he rolls.

A Wisconsin native, he comes by his cheese-love honestly.

He carries a pocketful of bouncy balls everywhere he goes.

Giulia Bundesmann

General Manager

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Giulia's background includes a vast array of broadcast-media roles, including producer, production manager, post-house manager and communications trainer. And while her decade with Primal Screen has kept her bouncing, we have yet to take advantage of her world class pogo sticking.

She keeps a lot of plates spinning in the kitchen. No crashes yet.

Nothing's better than a nice purse — except, perhaps, several.

She enjoys a good stroll through the world of words.

Joe Kubesheski

Animation Director

Most of Primal Screen's award-winning, animation projects from the last decade have featured Joe's work. His BFA from SCAD is for Computer Art and Animation, but his considerable skills span character and background design, hand-drawn and Flash animation, and illustration. Joe has been very involved in the Atlanta chapter of the international animation society, ASIFA and served on the board for several years.

Classic muscle cars give him red line fever.

Joe eats every single day. Sometimes it's a burger.

Joe likes joe so much they named it after him.

Fumi Yozawa

Animation Director

Fumi’s skills range from illustration and character design to 3D modeling and animation. She has served as animation director and lead designer on a variety of award-winning pieces at Primal Screen over the years for clients such as Disney Jr, Nickelodeon, and PBS Kids. She loves eating ice cream and bacon, but not together!

She's a true conehead.

She and gravity have a twisted relationship.

She makes sure to get plenty of the fifth food group.

Rob “Vegas” Shetler

Animation Director

In his twelve years at Primal Screen, Vegas has worked on hundreds of projects, in every capacity of 3-D animation. His work stretches from child-like and endearing to weirdly off-center. Few people know his real name, but that's just because Vegas is such a good bet.

Nothing warms the skull better than a jaunty lid.

Weather permitting, he loves to drive his motorcycle to work.

Clyde is his latest in a succession of pampered Pits.

Patrice Needham

Animator / Compositor

With degrees in fine art and animation from such esteemed schools as Parsons and Sheridan College, Patrice deftly tiptoes between commercial art and the stuff of galleries. Her experience is no less impressive, including stints with Scripps, Turner, and Christov FX in Los Angeles. She is known at Primal Screen for handling a wide-range of seemingly unrelated tasks and giving them luster. On top of that, she's eager to add, Patrice is the proud mother of a fantastic girl.

She paints vivid scenes of magical delight.

Her daughter Mia is her partner and pal.

She considers it her mission to remain curious.

Stella Kim

Designer / Director

Stella graduated SCAD with a thorough mastery and fluidity of motion design. Prior to that, In Korea, she began her coursework in Broadcast and Advertising. When she's not making countless Primal Screen jobs sparkle, Stella indulges her many talents including photography, sketching and playing guitar and piano.

Her Korean and English names both mean "star."

She danced for audiences in Korea, but here limits it to home

She says nature’s transformations transform her, too.

Dakota Ling

Senior Developer

Dakota is that rare individual whose passions range from the artistic to the mathematical. At Primal Screen he calls both into service when programming for the web and mobile apps. Similarly, away from work, his interests span electronics, charcoal drawing, photography and (heavens!) fire performance.

He spins and breathes actual fire. So treat him nicely.

He is accomplished in all the nerdistic arts.

He finds solace among the craggy peaks.

Kelcey Steele

Designer / Director

Kelcey is a proud Texas native who set her sights on SCAD during middle school. After graduating in 2008, she landed in Atlanta and has been working in the motion graphics industry since. As a design and 3D enthusiast, she loves to create in the digital realm, but can’t resist the chance to get her hands dirty every now and then.

Devises delicious, dramatic delicacies.

Some use spreadsheets to make tables. She uses a woodshop.

She goes at full gallop.

Bixby West

Designer / Director

With a degree in Motion Design from SCAD-Savannah, Bixby brings a sense of wonder and delight to her writing, illustration and design. Her client roster, which includes PBS Kids, Scholastic and Disney, is a testament to her innate knack for conjuring rich and playful scenarios. What’s more, Bixby loves cake and pets — also rich and playful.

What's not to love about a horse with a narwhal horn?

She rocks out with her squeezebox.

Cranberry and Toad often help in the studio.

Kathleen Schenck

Interactive Coordinator

Arriving on Primal Screen's sunny shores from Bento Box, Kathleen brings deep experience handling scheduling and project management on large, involved jobs. And with a degree in Visual Effects from SCAD-Savannah, Kathleen is also well-versed in the creative side. This one-two punch helps keep projects on track — as does her former life as a horse trainer.

At midday she relishes a light lunch and a weighty tome.

Reach high (but keep ahold of your rope).

Rubber ducks give her something to squeak about.

Jalysa Leva

Animation Director

Her greatest love is for 2-D character animation, but Jalysa is a switch hitter who enjoys every stage of an animated project. One of our many SCAD grads, she has animated with a number of studios before alighting at Primal Screen. And as if that weren't enough, Jalysa is an accomplished cellist who has played Carnegie Hall. Twice!

She is a fashion maven, pioneering the 90s wizard look.

She keeps her string playing on the down low.

Tiny sweets are a giant treat!

Akil Jules

Frontend Developer

A programmer with degrees in Interactive Design and Game Development from SCAD, Akil specializes in creating charming experiences through games and interactivity. His resume includes projects in entertainment for both web and mobile for Hasbro, Activision and Cartoon Network. Growing up as an island kid, he also speaks three languages and likes to cook Caribbean food.

The ivories love a good tickling.

He brings his one-two punch to gaming competitions.

His pot simmers with the taste of the islands.

Brandon Bentley

Director of Infrastructure

Having worked at Primal Screen in the early 2000s, Brandon went on to support research technology at the University of Nebraska, eventually coming back for all the fun. A graduate of Georgia Tech, he has been tinkering with computers and coding since the age of ten and has been excited about art and design for nearly as long. Brandon is in charge of the company's technology and databases but that's not all he does here, having a hand in video shoots, digital signage, editing, coding and other fun stuff.

Music should be paired with cheap beer and sweat.

He loves friends of the feathered variety.

The best movies have a foreign accent.

Nick Fess

Animator

With a BFA from SCAD, Nick is equally adept animating in 2D or 3D. He has a passion for all things character, animation, and, well, character animation. Nick has worked at Primal Screen since graduating, applying his talents to long form character driven projects.

He is a walking Pokedex.

But who controls the controller?

He loves to play a role.

Prosenjit Bagchi

Business Development Assistant

Before coming to Atlanta to study, Pro was in an engineering program in his native India. After earning a degree in animation from SCAD, he transitioned to production. In his downtime Pro also serves as the Marketing Director for ASIFA-South, as well as regularly volunteering at CTNX and SIGGRAPH.

He likes to follow suit.

Two languages and counting.

He knows the high tech lowdown.

Linsey Kim

Illustrator / Animator

A love of children’s book illustration brought Linsey to SCAD where she majored in 2D animation. Degree in hand she came straight to Primal Screen where she complements her animation skills with vivid concept illustration.

Space is the place.

She gets her kicks from kicks.

She yearns for yum.

Jessica Zalzman

Junior Developer

A gifted developer, Jessica came to Primal Screen directly from Georgia Tech. She has built curriculum-based interactive and games for PBS and Sesame Workshop among others. Outside of Primal Screen she has mentored youth, and particularly girls, in coding.

Any day can be a hum-strum day

She’s served several sentences

She’s moved by movies

Charlotte Preuss

Administrative/Production Assistant

A graduate of Loyola University, New Orleans, where she studied English and Film, Charlotte is responsible for a great deal of Primal Screen’s client- and public-facing endeavors. While an avid world traveler, she always loves returning to her own kitchen.

So many asanas, so little air conditioning

She loves to fiddle with vittles

She has a fondness for the cinema

Wilkes Vaughn

IT/3D Support Specialist

Wilkes graduated from SCAD Savannah in June of 2018. With a lifelong interest in computers, video games, and electronics, he happily skips between the worlds of artists, creatives, and the more technically minded.

Fastest thumbs in the south

He’s into string theory

Fun, cubed

Haiting Fu

Animator

With an MFA from SCAD, Haiting is comfortable working in both 2D and 3D animation. She loves a variety of roles, from effects work, to character design and animation, to background illustration. She is also crazy about spicy food.

She’s a kitty girl

Bibbidy bubble tea boo

Always ready for a ruff day
